Dragon Boat Festival 2024 : Dragon Boat Festival Boston Food, Story

The Dragon Boat Festival (Duan Wu Jie) in China falls on June 10, 2024. During this traditional holiday, Chinese people enjoy three days off work, from June 8 to 10.

The festival is based on the Chinese Lunar Calendar, so the date on the Gregorian calendar changes every year. On this occasion, people engage in dragon-boat racing, a collective rowing competition, and indulge in zongzi, a delicious treat made from sticky rice wrapped in reed leaves.

To ward off diseases and bad luck, they hang wormwood and calamus on windows and doors. Children also wear colored silk on their ankles and wrists to protect against evil and diseases. 🚣‍♂️🥮🌿

On Sunday, the Dragon Boat Festival took place in Reno.

Even though the official day is Monday, there were parties on Sunday.

The event was put on by the Asian Community Development Council and the Organisation of Asian Nevada.

There were cultural shows, traditional dragon boat races, and other things to do at the event.

People who came also got to eat an Asian lunch and were given gift bags with rice dumplings.

The people who put on the event say it’s about wanting freedom and liberty while also honouring culture, community, teamwork, and persistence.

Generally, dragon boat races are held in Stanley, Tai Po, Sha Tin, and Aberdeen in Hong Kong every year.
