DNS Error PS4 NW-31250-1 | Steps to Fix

The PS4 error code NW-31250-1 usually indicates an internal server error or a DNS (Domain Name System) resolution issue that prevents the console from connecting to the PlayStation Network (PSN) servers.

This error is often temporary and can be on the server’s side, but you should try the following fixes:

Quick Checks (Server and Router)

  1. Check PSN Server Status:

    • The first step is to check if the issue is with Sony’s servers. Go to the official PlayStation Network Status page (use a phone or computer) to see if there are any current outages or maintenance. If the servers are down, you just need to wait.
  2. Restart Your Equipment:

    • Power cycle your entire network. Turn off your PS4 completely, unplug your modem and router for at least 5 minutes, then plug them back in and wait for them to fully reboot before turning your PS4 back on.
  3. Restart PS4 and Relog-in:

    • Restart your PS4 console.
    • In Settings $\rightarrow$ Account Management, select Sign Out and then Sign In again.

Advanced Network Configuration

If the quick fixes don’t work, manually setting your DNS may resolve the problem.

  1. Go to Settings $\rightarrow$ Network $\rightarrow$ Set Up Internet Connection.
  2. Choose your connection type (Wi-Fi or LAN Cable).
  3. Select Custom setup.
  4. For IP Address Settings, choose Automatic (or Manual if you know how to set a Static IP).
  5. For DHCP Host Name, choose Do Not Specify.
  6. For DNS Settings, choose Manual.
    • Primary DNS: Enter 8.8.8.8 (Google Public DNS)
    • Secondary DNS: Enter 8.8.4.4 (Google Public DNS)
    • Alternatively, use Cloudflare's DNS: Primary: 1.1.1.1 and Secondary: 1.0.0.1
  7. For MTU Settings, choose Automatic.
  8. For Proxy Server, choose Do Not Use.
  9. Run the Test Internet Connection to confirm the settings work.

If the error persists after trying these steps, it is highly likely that the issue is a temporary problem with the PSN servers themselves, and you should try again later.
