Discord Stuck on RTC Connecting | Ways to Fix

Discord’s official status page is green, but crowdsourced data from StatusGator indicates a potential unacknowledged outage in India over the last few hours, with hundreds of users reporting connection failures.

The “RTC Connecting” error specifically means Discord is failing to establish a WebRTC (Real-Time Communication) handshake between your device and their voice servers.

Quick Fixes for Today

Since you’ve been troubleshooting other technical issues recently, try these specific fixes in order:

  1. Kill and Restart (Task Manager): On Windows, Discord often hangs in a “ghost” state. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc, find Discord, and click End Task. Then relaunch.

  2. Change Voice Region (If you’re a Server Admin): This is the most effective fix for localized outages.

    • Go to Channel Settings (the gear icon next to the voice channel).

    • Under Region Override, switch from “Automatic” to a different region (e.g., Singapore or US Central).

  3. Disable QoS High Packet Priority: Discord’s Quality of Service feature can sometimes be blocked by local ISPs (like IndiHome, which you were checking earlier).

    • User Settings (gear icon) > Voice & Video > Scroll down to Quality of Service.

    • Toggle Enable Quality of Service High Packet Priority to OFF.

  4. The “Legacy” Subsystem: If you’re on an older machine or having driver issues:

    • In Voice & Video settings, scroll to Audio Subsystem.

    • Change it from “Standard” to Legacy.

Advanced Network Troubleshooting

If the steps above don’t work, the issue is likely with your network’s DNS or Firewall:

  • Flush your DNS: Open Command Prompt (cmd) as Administrator and type: ipconfig /flushdns

  • Check for VPN/Firewall Interference: Discord requires UDP (User Datagram Protocol) to function. If you are using a VPN that only supports TCP, or if your Windows Firewall is set to “Strict,” the RTC connection will fail. Try disabling your VPN or whitelisting Discord.exe in your firewall settings.

[!NOTE] There were reports of “Voice and video errors” as recently as late January 2026. If the above fixes fail, it’s likely a backend issue at Discord that will resolve itself within an hour.
