Destiny 2 Error Code Marionberry | Steps to Fix

Error Code: Marionberry in Destiny 2 is almost always a Local Network Issue. Unlike server-side errors (like “Cat” or “Currant”), Marionberry means your console or PC failed to complete the “handshake” with Bungie’s servers, usually because your router is in a “bad state” or a setting is blocking the connection.

Here is the checklist to fix it, ranked by success rate.

1. The “Golden Fix” (Cold Power Cycle)

Do not just restart your game; you must reset the entire chain.

  1. Turn off your Console or PC completely.

  2. Unplug your Router (and Modem) from the wall power.

  3. Wait at least 60 seconds. (This clears the router’s temporary cache).

  4. Plug the Router back in and wait for all lights to stabilize.

  5. Turn your Console/PC back on and launch the game.

Why this works: It forces your router to assign a fresh internal IP address to your device and clears any “stale” connection data that was triggering the error.

2. Check “Parental Controls” (The Hidden Blocker)

If the reboot didn’t work, your router might be flagging Destiny 2’s peer-to-peer connection as “unsafe” or “spam.”

  • Log in to your router settings and look for Parental Controls, Web Safety, or Child Safe filters.

  • Turn them OFF temporarily to test.

  • Destiny 2 requires an open connection to other players; strict ISP filters often block this, triggering a Marionberry error.

3. The DNS Swap

If your ISP’s directory is struggling to find Bungie’s servers, bypass them.

  • PlayStation: Settings > Network > Settings > Set Up Internet Connection > Custom > DNS Settings > Manual.

  • Xbox: Settings > General > Network Settings > Advanced Settings > DNS Settings > Manual.

  • PC: Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network Connections > Right-click Adapter > Properties > IPv4 > Properties.

Enter these values:

  • Primary: 8.8.8.8 (Google)

  • Secondary: 1.1.1.1 (Cloudflare)

4. The “Hotspot Test” (Diagnostic)

To confirm if your router is 100% the problem:

  • Disconnect your PC/Console from your home Wi-Fi.

  • Turn on your Phone’s Mobile Hotspot and connect your gaming device to that.

  • Launch Destiny 2.

  • Result: If you get in using the hotspot, the issue is definitely your home router or ISP firewall. If you still get Marionberry, the game installation might be corrupted.
