The “Couldn’t Connect to Discover” error is largely linked to a major core update that began rolling out yesterday. Google officially launched the February 2026 Discover Core Update on February 5.
Whenever these updates roll out, users often experience temporary connection timeouts or “blank feeds” while the systems re-index content.
Current Issues (February 6, 2026)
iOS/Safari Bug: There are widespread reports today of Discover failing specifically on Safari for iPhone. If you are on an iPhone, try checking the Google App or Chrome instead, as the bug seems localized to the Safari browser interface.
Core Update Fluctuations: Because the update is “Active,” you may see a “Something went wrong” message as Google updates your personalized source preferences.
Quick Fixes to Try Right Now
Since you are likely seeing this because of the update or a sync error, run through these steps in order:
Toggle Discover Off/On: * Open the Google App > Tap your Profile Icon > Settings > General.
Turn Discover OFF, wait 10 seconds, and turn it back ON.
Force Sync Your Clock: * If your phone’s time is even 30 seconds off, Google’s security certificates will block the connection. Go to Settings > Date & Time and ensure “Set automatically” is toggled on.
Clear the Google App Cache (Android):
Go to Settings > Apps > Google > Storage & Cache > Clear Cache. (Do not “Clear Data” unless you want to reset your app preferences).
Check Background Data:
Discover won’t load if “Data Saver” mode is on or if background data is restricted for the Google app. Ensure Background Data is allowed in the app info settings.

Why it might be blank for you
If you have been troubleshooting technical errors and searching for specific software vulnerabilities (like the ODBC one we discussed), your “Interests” might be shifting. The new core update is designed to prioritize expertise and timely content, so if your feed is blank, it may be recalibrating based on your recent activity.
