How to activate your new card
To activate your new card, you have to be enrolled in online banking. Have your card handy, too. You’ll need to enter the 3-digit security code on the back to activate it.
If you already have a Capital One credit card
You’ll need to link your new credit card account to your existing one. Just follow the directions under Consolidate Your Accounts.
Activate your card as soon as it arrives, and you can start enjoying all it has to offer.
1. Sign in to your account—online or on the Capital One Mobile app. (Text “MOBILE” to 80101 for a link to download).
2. Choose the account linked to your debit card.
3. Look for a button to activate your card next to the debit card delivery tracker online, or below your account balance in the mobile app.
4. Select “Activate Your Card” and follow the steps shown. You may be asked to set a PIN to finish the activation process.
Can I lock my debit card?
Yes, you can—anytime, anywhere.
Locking your debit card will prevent transactions until you unlock it. Keep in mind that this won’t prevent automatic bill payments or other scheduled transfers from occurring.

Manage your PIN number
Find out how to request or change your Personal Identification Number (PIN).
A PIN is the four-digit code you can use for cash advances. When you first get your card, you are usually given the option of selecting your own PIN, receiving a system generated PIN, or declining a PIN.
Get a PIN online
- Sign in to your credit card account.
- Click More Account Settings, find Control Your Card and follow the directions under Get a Cash Advance.
- We may be able to send you a code by email or text and you can select a custome PIN to use right way. Otherwise, it will arrive by mail in about 7 to 10 business days.
Other ways to get a PIN
Call 1-800-227-4825 to activate the Capital One Card and follow the directions given by our automated system. You can request a PIN by mail that will arrive in 7-10 days or if you know your current PIN, you can simply update it.

Setting up AutoPay
Set up automatic payments for your schedule.
To set up AutoPay:
- Sign in to your account.
- On your account page, click Setup AutoPay.
- Follow the steps to set up AutoPay.
To edit or cancel an AutoPay:
- Sign in to your account.
On your account page, click I Want to… and then Manage AutoPay Series. - Click Cancel AutoPay, and then set up a new series.
Please Note: Payments that have started processing cannot be canceled.
