There is no widespread Capital One outage reported in the United States. The official status page indicates “All Systems Operational.”
However, user reports on Downdetector often show small localized spikes during the workday. If the app is not working for you inside the USA right now, it is likely due to one of three common triggers:
1. The “VPN” Conflict (Most Common)
Many US users run privacy VPNs (like NordVPN or Google One VPN) on their phones.
The Issue: Capital One’s latest security update aggressively blocks commercial VPN IP addresses to prevent fraud.
The Fix: Turn off your VPN completely and force-close the app. Try logging in again using your standard home Wi-Fi or cellular data.
2. Carrier Connection Issues (T-Mobile / Verizon)
Sometimes your phone shows “5G,” but the data packet for the secure login handshake fails.
The Test: Turn off Wi-Fi and try to log in using Cellular Data only.
The Flip: If that fails, turn on Airplane Mode for 10 seconds, turn it off, and reconnect to Wi-Fi. This forces your phone to grab a fresh IP address from the tower.

3. Update Your App (Version 6.39.0)
Capital One released a mandatory security patch (Version 6.39.0) on February 2, 2026.
If you are still on an older version, the app will open but may hang indefinitely on the login screen or crash when you tap “Sign In.”
Action: Go to the App Store or Google Play Store and manually check for an update.
4. Biometric “Loop” Glitch
If the app asks for FaceID/Fingerprint and then immediately spins back to the “Sign In” button:
Cancel the FaceID prompt.
Manually type your password.
Once inside, go to Profile > Security and toggle Biometrics OFF and then ON again.
Still Stuck?
If you cannot get the app to load, you can still access your money via the mobile browser at capitalone.com. The website uses different security protocols and often works when the app is blocking you.
