BPAY | To use BPAY with Commonwealth Bank

To use BPAY with Commonwealth Bank (whether you want to pay a bill using your CommBank account or pay money into a CommBank loan/card), here is the essential information you need.

1. How to pay a bill (Using the CommBank App)

If you have a bill (e.g., electricity, phone) and want to pay it using your CommBank account:

  1. Log in to the CommBank App.

  2. Tap Pay (bottom center) > BPAY.

  3. Tap + (top right) to add a new biller.

  4. Enter the Biller Code and Reference Number (found on your bill).

  5. Enter the amount and tap Pay.

2. CommBank Biller Codes (Paying into CommBank)

If you are transferring money from another bank to pay off a CommBank credit card or loan, use these details:

3. Processing Times (The “6pm Rule”)

  • Before 6:00 pm (Sydney/Melb Time) on Business Days: The payment is usually processed the same day.

  • After 6:00 pm, Weekends, or Public Holidays: The payment will be processed on the next business day.

    • Note: Even if CommBank sends it immediately, the receiving company (e.g., your electricity provider) may take 1–2 extra days to update their system.

4. Common Troubleshooting

  • “Limit Exceeded”: The default daily BPAY limit is usually $2,000 or $10,000. You can increase this instantly in the app:

    • Go to Profile (top left) > Settings > Payment Limits > BPAY.

  • “Invalid Biller Code”: Double-check you haven’t confused the “Biller Code” (usually 4–6 digits) with the “Ref Number” (usually longer).

  • Mistaken Payment: BPAY payments cannot be cancelled once sent. If you paid the wrong person, you must contact CommBank immediately to request a “mistaken payment investigation” (though a refund is not guaranteed).
