Bluesky Invalid Handle | Is Bluesky Down

As of Tuesday, March 17, 2026, Bluesky is operational. While there were some minor user-submitted reports of glitches yesterday, there is no ongoing global outage.

The “Invalid Handle” message you are seeing is a known bug that often happens when the platform is under high load or when a specific server (PDS) is struggling to verify your username.

How to fix the “Invalid Handle” error

You can usually force the app to re-verify your identity with these steps:

1. The “Reset” Method (Most Effective)

  • Go to Settings > Account > Change Handle.

  • Choose “I have a Bluesky handle” (even if you’re already using one).

  • Re-type your current handle (e.g., username.bsky.social).

  • Tap Save or Update. This forces the system to re-link your profile to your “DID” (your unique ID string).

2. For Custom Domains

If your handle is a custom domain (like @yourname.com):

  • Check your DNS settings with your domain registrar.

  • Ensure the TXT record for _atproto is still there and contains your correct did=plc:... string.

  • Sometimes toggling back to a .bsky.social handle and then back to your domain fixes the sync issue.

3. App Glitch Workaround

  • Log out and log back in: This clears the local cache that might be stuck on the “Invalid” status.

  • Check the Web Version: If the app says “Invalid,” try logging in at bsky.app. If it works there, simply delete and reinstall the app on your phone.
