To activate your card, log into your Trusted Traveler Program (TPP) account at https://ttp.cbp.dhs.gov/. After you log in, click on the “Activate Membership Card” button under the Program Membership(s) section.
Step-by-Step Activation
Log in to your Trusted Traveler Program (TTP) account:
- Go to the official TTP website and sign in using the credentials you created during the application process.
Navigate to the Dashboard:
- After logging in, you will be taken to your TTP dashboard. This page provides an overview of your application status and membership details.
Locate the “Activate Membership Card” button:
- Under the “Program Membership(s)” section, you should see your Global Entry membership listed. There will be a button or link specifically for card activation.
Click the button:
- Click on “Activate Membership Card.” You may be prompted to enter your PASSID (the membership number on the back of your card) and a security code from the card itself.
Confirm Activation:
- Once you click to activate, you should receive a confirmation message that your card is now active.
Why Activation Matters
Global Entry Card: Required to use SENTRI or NEXUS land/sea lanes. Not needed for airport kiosks, which accept passports or permanent resident cards instead.
SENTRI Card: Requires activation before use. Once activated, the RFID card can be used to expedite border crossings.

Important Notes:
1. Timeline: You should activate your card within 30 days of receiving it to ensure you can use it at the Trusted Traveler lanes.
2. Card Use: While the card is not required for using the Global Entry kiosks at airports (your passport or permanent resident card is used for this), it is necessary for using the SENTRI and NEXUS lanes at land and sea ports when entering the U.S. from Mexico or Canada.
3. Known Traveler Number (KTN): Your PASSID on the back of your card serves as your Known Traveler Number. You should add this number to your airline reservations to receive TSA PreCheck benefits.
Don’t delay activating your card—you must do it within 30 days of receipt, or you’ll be unable to use it in expedited lanes.
