Activate a myPOS Device : Log in to the myPOS account for Device Activation

To activate a myPOS device the merchant needs a myPOS account, a mobile phone (to receive a confirmation via text message) and Internet connection (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi or GPRS). All devices come equipped with a built-in DATA Card for 3G/GPRS connectivity. The DATA Card is designed exclusively for myPOS Devices and comes free of charge to allow merchants to use the device everywhere in Europe.

The activation of the myPOS Device is a simple, one-time process that takes about 5 minutes. The merchant should:

  • STEP 1: Log in to the myPOS account, go to the POS Devices menu, then click on Activate device and follow the instructions. An activation code will be generated.
  • STEP 2: Enter the activation code on the myPOS device. Note that the terminal must be connected to the Internet in order to complete the activation process.
  • STEP 3: Upon activation the device will display a confirmation screen, then automatically check for software updates. If a new update is available, the device will download and install it automatically.

The device is now ready to use and will be listed under the menu Devices in the myPOS account.

Note that the device should be activated following this procedure regardless of whether it’s been purchased from a myPOS official distributor, from a myPOS Store or online.

Errors when activating the device & potential reasons:

‘Device activation not successful’

  • Code entered incorrectly, check the code and try again.
  • The activation code is only valid for 24 hours. If the code is expired, re-start the process from STEP 1.

Update procedure failed

  • Issues with the Internet connection – check if the connection is working and try again. Alternatively, switch from one connection type to another and try again.

Connectivity

The myPOS devices can be connected to the Internet via a 3G/4G/GPRS, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi connection.

3G/4G/GPRS

All devices come equipped with a built-in DATA card for 3G/4G/GPRS connectivity. The card is offered free of charge and allows merchants to use their myPOS device everywhere in Europe.

Bluetooth

Connecting myPOS devices to the Internet using Bluetooth is only available for Android devices.

  • STEP 1: Download and install the free myPOS Bluetooth Service mobile app from the Google Play Store.
  • STEP 2: Open the app and it will automatically launch a communication service. Close the app.

Wi-Fi or personal hotspot

Note that the supported encryption methods for Wi-Fi networks are WPA and WPA2. The steps to connect the myPOS device to Wi-Fi differ by device.

STEP 1: Select “Wi-Fi” from the CONNECTION TYPE menu by pressing (1). The device will scan for available Wi-Fi networks within its range and will display a list of their names on the screen.

STEP 2: Find the Wi-Fi network and select it by pressing its number (from 1 to 6). If there are more than 6 available networks on the list, switch to the next page of the list by pressing SETTINGS. If the Wi-Fi network cannot be found on the list, press (X) and the device will rescan (search again) for available Wi-Fi networks. Make sure the device is in range of the network.

STEP 3: If the Wi-Fi network requires a password, the device will display the Wi-Fi Password screen to enter the password. If the password contains digits, press the relevant number key. If it contains letters or other symbols, press the relevant number key and then press F2 as many times as necessary until the correct letter is displayed. If a mistake is made, press (>) to delete the last entry. When the password has been entered, press (O) in order to complete the operation.

Once the device has been connected to the Wi-Fi network, it will perform a test of the connection to myPOS system. If the connection test is unsuccessful, the device will display an error message. Check if the Wi-Fi is working correctly and repeat the steps.

Make sure the myPOS Combo is in the range of the Wi-Fi network. Switch ON the device and wait a few seconds until it completes the initialization. If the displayed screen is CONNECTION TYPE, please proceed to Step 1 below. If the Bluetooth Menu displays, press (< CLEAR) to return to CONNECTION TYPE screen and proceed to Step 1 below. For any other screen displays, please press (X CANCEL) to exit from the current operation, then press the FUNC button from the keyboard to enter SETTINGS MENU 1 and choose Change Connection type (3).

STEP 3: If the Wi-Fi network requires a password, myPOS Combo will display the Wi-Fi Password screen, where the password can be entered. If the password contains digits, press the relevant number key. If it contains letters, press the relevant number key and then switch to letters by pressing the ALPHA button from the keyboard several times in order to select the required character. If a mistake is made, press the yellow key (< CLEAR) to delete the last entry. When the password has been entered, press the green key (O ENTER) in order to complete the operation.

Once it’s connected to the Wi-Fi network, myPOS Combo will perform a test of the connection to myPOS system.
