Troubleshoot your Yahoo account error using the steps below. The solutions differ depending on whether you are seeing a numbered error code (like 15 or 19) or a generic “Account Error” on your phone.
1. Common Error Codes (Web & Mobile)
If you see a specific number, it indicates a server-side or security issue.
Temporary Error 14 or 15
What it means: The server is overloaded or you are logged in on too many devices at once.
The Fix:
Sign out of Yahoo on all devices (phones, tablets, computers).
Clear your browser’s cache and cookies.
Wait 15–30 minutes before logging back in.
If it persists, use a different browser (e.g., switch from Chrome to Edge).
Error 19
What it means: Yahoo has “locked” your account because it detected suspicious activity (like sending too many emails or clicking too fast, which looks like a bot).
The Fix: This is usually a security lock. You must wait for it to clear (often 12–24 hours). Changing your password sometimes forces a reset, but patience is the only guaranteed fix.

2. “Account Error” on iPhone or iPad
If you see a popup saying “Account Error: Yahoo” or “Cannot Get Mail” in the iOS Mail app, this is a synchronization failure between Apple and Yahoo, not necessarily a broken account.
Fix A: Re-authenticate the Account
Go to Settings > Mail > Accounts.
Tap on your Yahoo account.
Tap “Re-enter Password” or “Delete Account”.
Important: When adding the account back, choose the Yahoo! logo (do not choose “Other”). This loads the modern secure login page that Apple Mail needs.
Fix B: Generate an App Password (If using “Other” or Outlook)
If you manually set up your email (IMAP/POP) or use an older app, your normal password will not work. You need a specific “App Password.”
Log in to Yahoo Security settings on a computer.
Click “Generate and manage app passwords”.
Create a password for “iPhone Mail” and type that code into your phone instead of your real password.
3. Yahoo Mail App Crashing (Android)
If the app opens and immediately closes:
Open the Google Play Store.
Search for “Android System WebView” and tap Update.
Search for “Chrome” and tap Update.
Restart your phone.
Context: A common Android bug in the “WebView” component causes Yahoo Mail (and Gmail) to crash if it isn’t updated.
4. Account Locked / Forgotten Password
If you cannot sign in at all:
Use the Sign-in Helper: Go to login.yahoo.com/forgot. You must have access to your recovery email or phone number.
The “Paid Support” Trap: Be aware that Yahoo does not offer free phone support for free accounts. If you are stuck, the official path is “Yahoo Mail Plus” (approx. $5/month), which unlocks 24/7 phone support. Do not call random “Yahoo Support” numbers found on Google; they are often scams.
