“ABC Live” is a term used by a few different services (including the Australian ABC iview and the American ABC News), but Error Code 28 is most famously associated with Roku devices and indicates a network or internet connection failure.
If you are trying to watch ABC Live on a Roku (TV or Stick), this error means your device cannot connect to your Wi-Fi or the signal is too weak to stream the video.
Here is how to fix it:
1. The “Network Reset” (Most Likely Fix)
This error usually happens when the device thinks it is connected but has no actual internet flow.
For Roku: Go to Settings > Network > Check Connection. If it fails, proceed to the next step.
The Fix: Go to Settings > System > Advanced System Settings > Network Connection Reset > Reset Connection.
Note: You will need to re-enter your Wi-Fi password after this.
2. Restart Your Router
Even if other devices are working, the connection to your streaming device might be “stale.”
Unplug your internet router/modem from the power.
Unplug your TV or Streaming Device.
Wait 60 seconds.
Plug the router back in and wait for the lights to stabilize.
Plug the TV/Device back in and try ABC Live again.

3. Check for Geo-Blocking (VPNs)
If you are using a VPN or a DNS proxy to watch ABC (specifically ABC iview from outside Australia or ABC US from outside the USA), “Error 28” or similar connection errors often appear when the broadcaster detects and blocks the VPN IP address.
The Fix: Turn off your VPN or switch to a different server location, then restart the app.
4. Reinstall the App
If the network is fine (other apps like YouTube work), the ABC app itself may have a corrupted cache.
Navigate to the ABC app icon.
Press the Star (*) button on your remote.
Select Remove Channel or Uninstall.
Important: Restart your device (Settings > System > Power > System Restart) before reinstalling.
Go to the Channel Store and download the ABC app again.
