AadhaarFaceRD | You Cannot “Open” This App

AadhaarFaceRD (Aadhaar Face Registered Device) is an official mobile application developed by the UIDAI. It allows you to use your smartphone’s camera to verify your identity using Aadhaar Face Authentication, eliminating the need for physical fingerprint or iris scanners.

Here is a guide on how to understand, install, and use it properly.

Crucial Note: You Cannot “Open” This App

The most common confusion is that users install the app and cannot find an “Open” button.

  • It is a “Headless” App: This means it has no screen or interface of its own. It runs in the background as a driver/service.

  • How it works: You don’t open AadhaarFaceRD directly. Instead, you open a government service app (like Jeevan Pramaan or PM Kisan), and that app will automatically launch AadhaarFaceRD when it needs to scan your face.

1. Installation Guide

To use Face Authentication, you must have this app installed first.

  • Android:

    • Go to the Google Play Store.

    • Search for “AadhaarFaceRD” (Publisher should be Unique Identification Authority of India).

    • Click Install.

  • iOS (iPhone):

    • Go to the App Store.

    • Search for “AadhaarFaceRD”.

    • Click Get/Install.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Android: Version 9.0 or above.

  • Storage: At least 500 MB free space.

  • Camera: 13 MP or higher is recommended for clear scanning.

2. How to Use It (Step-by-Step)

Since you cannot open the RD app itself, follow this process to use it:

  1. Install AadhaarFaceRD: (As per the steps above).

  2. Install the “Client” App: Download the specific government app you are trying to use. Common examples include:

    • Jeevan Pramaan (For Life Certificates)

    • PM Kisan app

    • Ayushman Bharat (PMJAY)

    • Ration Card (PDS) apps

  3. Start Authentication: Open the Client App (e.g., Jeevan Pramaan), enter your details, and select “Face Authentication.”

  4. Automatic Launch: The Client App will now trigger the AadhaarFaceRD service. Your camera will open with a green/red face guide.

  5. Scan Face:

    • Hold the phone steady at eye level.

    • Blink your eyes naturally.

    • Ensure the frame turns Green (indicating a successful capture).

3. Troubleshooting & Tips

Issue Solution
“App Installed but can’t find it” This is normal. Check Settings > Apps to confirm it is installed. You cannot open it from the home screen.
“Face Capture Failed” Ensure you are in a well-lit room. Avoid strong backlight (don’t stand in front of a window). Clean your camera lens.
“Permission Denied” Go to Settings > Apps > AadhaarFaceRD > Permissions. Ensure Camera permission is set to “Allow”.
“Device Not Compatible” Your phone might be running an older Android version (below 9.0) or act “rooted.” Update your OS.
