A Fatal Error Occurred When Running Fusee | Version Mismatch

This Fatal error usually happens on a Nintendo Switch running the Atmosphere custom firmware. It almost always means there is a Version Mismatch between the fusee.bin file you are injecting from your PC/Dongle and the Atmosphere files currently on your SD card.

Here is how to fix it, ranked by the most common mistakes.

How to Fix

1. Update Your Payload Injector (The #1 Mistake)

Most people update the files on their SD card but forget to update the file they are “shooting” into the Switch.

  1. Download the latest Atmosphere release (.zip) from GitHub.

  2. Inside that zip file, look for a file named fusee.bin.

  3. Extract this file to your computer.

  4. Update your injector:

    • If using TegraRcmGUI (PC): Click the folder icon next to “Inject Payload” and select this new fusee.bin. Do not use the old one from your “Favorites” list until you update it.

    • If using a Dongle (RCM Loader): Plug the dongle into your PC, open the ATMOSPHERE folder on the dongle, and replace the payload.bin with this new fusee.bin (rename it to payload.bin if necessary).

    • If using Rekado (Android): Add the new fusee.bin to your payloads list.

2. Update the SD Card Files

If your payload is new but your SD card is old, it will crash.

  1. Turn off your Switch and put the SD card into your PC.

  2. Delete the existing atmosphere and sept (if present) folders. Do not simply drag and drop to “overwrite” them; this leaves old conflicting files behind.

  3. Copy the atmosphere folder from the latest download zip onto your SD card.

  4. Optional but recommended: Update Hekate and the bootloader folder as well if you use Hekate.

3. If You Use Hekate to Launch

If you boot into Hekate first and then try to launch Atmosphere (Fusee), your Hekate configuration might be pointing to an old file.

  1. Make sure you copied the new fusee.bin into the /bootloader/payloads/ folder on your SD card.

  2. In Hekate, go to Payloads.

  3. Select the new fusee.bin manually from the list rather than using the “Launch” button shortcut, just to test if it works.

Summary of the Fix:

You likely updated one part (the SD card) but not the other (the payload injector). Both fusee.bin (on your PC/Dongle) and the atmosphere folder (on your SD) must be from the exact same version release.
