How To Activate Data Manager on Safaricom

To activate Data Manager (also known as “My Data Manager” or “Out Of Bundle Management”) on Safaricom to prevent your airtime from being used when your bundles run out, follow these steps:

*Method 1: Using USSD 544# (Most Common)

  1. Dial *544#

  2. Look for an option labeled “My Data Manager” or “Check Balance”.

    • Note: Safaricom frequently updates this menu. If you don’t see it immediately, look for “More” (often option 98) or “Gifting & Balances”.

  3. Select “My Data Manager”.

  4. Select “Activate”.

  5. You will receive an SMS confirming that “Out Of Bundle Management” has been activated.

*Method 2: Using USSD 100# (Prepaid Users)

  1. Dial *100#

  2. Select the option for “My Account” or “My Subscriptions”.

  3. Look for “My Data Manager”.

*Method 3: Using USSD 200# (Postpaid Users)

  1. Dial *200#

  2. Select “My Account” or “My Subscriptions”.

  3. Select “My Data Manager”.

  4. Select “Activate”.


What happens next?

Once active, if your data bundle runs out, Safaricom will stop your browsing session instantly rather than switching to your airtime (which charges expensive rates). You will need to buy a new bundle to continue browsing.
