Based on the announcements made this week (December 2025), here is everything you need to know about the $1,776 “Warrior Dividend” (also known as the 1776 Military Bonus).

1. What is it?

It is a one-time, tax-free cash payment of $1,776 for eligible U.S. military service members.

  • Purpose: To honor the 250th anniversary of the nation’s founding (1776).

  • Funding: While President Trump stated it comes from tariff revenue, official Department of Defense (DoD) sources indicate it is being funded by repurposing $2.6 billion in Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH) supplemental funds.


2. Who is Eligible?

You DO qualify if you met these criteria as of November 30, 2025:

  • Active Duty: All branches (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Space Force, Coast Guard).

  • Rank: Pay grades O-6 (Colonel/Captain) and below. (Generals/Admirals O-7+ are excluded).

  • Reserves/Guard: You must have been on Active Duty orders for 31 days or more as of Nov 30.

You likely DO NOT qualify if:

  • You are a Veteran or Retiree (unless you were recalled to active duty).

  • You are a Reservist who was not on long-term active orders on Nov 30.

3. When will I get it?

  • Status: Payments started hitting bank accounts as of yesterday, December 19, 2025.

  • Deadline: The DoD aims to have all payments deposited before Christmas (Dec 25).

  • Where to look: It will appear as a separate line item on your Leave and Earnings Statement (LES), likely labeled as a “BAH Supplement” or similar one-time entitlement.


4. Important Warnings

  • No Application Needed: This is automatic. Do not click links claiming you need to “apply” or “claim” your 1776 check. Those are scams.

  • Tax-Free: Since it is categorized as a housing allowance supplement, it is reported to be non-taxable.
