Tidal Energy

The four main components of a tidal power generation plant will be subsequently discussed. These components (as shown in Figure 2) are a tidal basin, a tidal barrage, sluice gates, and the tidal turbines themselves. The first component of a tidal power generation plant is a tidal basin, or estuary. Finding a proper site containing an estuary is essential for the successful operation of a tidal power generation plant. One must note that the estuary will not be man-made; rather, the tidal basin will be a geographical feature that is not easily...>>>Read More

Air Craft Hydraulic System

It is a system where liquid under pressure is used to transmit this energy. Hydraulic systems take engine power and convert it to hydraulic power by means of a hydraulic pump. This power can be distributed throughout the airplane by means of tubing that runs through the aircraft. Hydraulic power may be reconverted to mechanical power by means of an actuating cylinder, or turbine. If an electrical system were used instead of a hydraulic system, a generator would take the place of the pump and a motor would take the place of the actuating cylinder............>>>>Read More

CAMM Systems

In an industry, cost of unscheduled stoppage of an equipment is very high, in terms of loss of production and money. Maintenance is an activity carried out to avoid unscheduled stoppages and breakdowns of the equipment, to improve availability and life of plant and machineries, thereby improving the performance of the industry. The effectiveness of production is highly dependent on quality of maintenance. One of the key factor for the success of an industry is an effective maintenance management system. .....>>>> Read More

Friction Stir Welding

In friction stir welding (FSW) a cylindrical, shouldered tool with a profiled probe is rotated and slowly plunged into the joint line between two pieces butted together. The parts have to be clamped onto a backing bar in a manner that prevents the abutting joint faces from being forced apart. Frictional heat is generated between the wear resistant welding tool and the material of the work pieces. This heat causes the latter to soften without reaching the melting point and allows traversing of the tool along the weld line. The maximum temperature reached is of the order of 0.8 of the melting temperature of the material......>>>>Read More
